1. Relationships are the most important thing in this life.

My friends and I were sitting around the kitchen table throwing out ideas of what we should do that night. As I complained that I should really be studying, one friend stopped me and said, “No. You know why? Because relationships are the most important thing in this life. If you don’t have those, you don’t have anything.” Those words have been ringing through my head and today he reminded me of them again when he wrote them in a letter to me. My whole life has been about school and getting good grades so I can be well-qualified for whatever came next. But when you’re about to die you don’t think about your resume because you can’t take that with you. The only thing you hold onto are family and friends. So the studying and the work can wait; relationships can’t.
